Bigham Completes First Supercar Doubleheader Weekend in New England

Cabot Bigham and Bryan Herta Rallysport continued making progress during the first doubleheader weekend of the 2017 season. The 20-year-old rookie gained momentum in the M-Sport Supercar and showed steady improvement as the weekend progressed. With faster lap times and more aggression against seasoned Red Bull Global Rallycross veterans, the 2016 Lites Champion looked for his best results of his young Red Bull Global Rallycross career.

Bigham’s Round 3 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park consisted of a fourth-place finish in Heat 1A, a third-place finish in Heat 2A, a second-place finish in Heat 3A, a fourth-place finish in Semifinal B and an eighth-place finish in the Global Rallycross Final.

“The team’s main goal for Round 3 was for me to not overthink anything in the car,” said Bigham. “This allowed me to make more consistent lap times and be much closer to the pace that was being set by the Volkswagen’s. This also ended up being a great thing for us to focus on because we continued to get faster as the day went on.”

Moving into Round 4, the No. 2 Bryan Herta Rallysport Supercar qualified in the eighth position. The New England native brought home another second-place finish in Heat 1A and a fourth-place finish in Heat 2B. Unfortunately, after contact with a tire barrier and another competitor in Semifinal One, Bigham was forced to retire from Red Bull Global Rallycross Round 4 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

“As far as the weekend goes, there were so many positives to take away because this is just a big learning curve for me,” said Bigham. “We have the pace and know where we can put the car, so I’m very excited to see what we can do this season.”

Bigham finished the weekend in seventh place of the 2017 points table. The Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship next travels north of the border for Rounds 5 and 6 in Ottawa, Canada June 16-18.
