FAST FACTS:
Sebring Satisfaction: BHA has enjoyed significant success at Sebring the last few seasons. Mark Wilkins and Harry Gottsacker won both races at Sebring in 2020, and the team locked-in the first three positions in the IMPC championship at the season finale at Sebring later that year. In 2021, Taylor Hagler and Michael Lewis scored their first podium as teammates, when they finished third at Sebring. It turned out to be the first of five consecutive podium finishes for the pair who went on to win the series title last season.
A Look Back at Daytona: BHA kicked off the 2022 season with their best results ever. BHA newcomers Tyler Maxson and AJ Muss made it an all-Elantra front row in qualifying. It was the 17-year old Maxson who scored the pole position, BHA’s first at the Speedway. After four intense hours of wheel-to-wheel racing, BHA earned a double podium finish at the Daytona season opener. Defending Champions Taylor Hagler and Michael Lewis finished second while Robert Wickens and Mark Wilkins finished third.
A Successful Transition: Racing with hand-controls for the first time, Robert Wickens finished on the podium at Daytona, alongside his teammate, fellow Canadian Mark Wilkins. His return to racing came after a three-year hiatus while recovering from an IndyCar incident in August of 2018 that left him disabled.
Womens History Month: In line with March being National Women’s History Month, Hyundai recently launched their 2022 Women in STEM scholarship. Hyundai’s goal is to continuously evolve toward the future of sustainable mobility, autonomy and to positively affect the world in which we live. Recognizing women who wish to pursue a STEM-related field of education, applicants are asked to submitted an essay combining Hyundai’s goals to their chosen STEM field. Five chosen scholarship winners will receive $10,000 each. Initiatives like Hyundai’s Women in STEM program have contributed to the expanded presence of women working in all roles in the IMSA paddock. BHA data acquisition engineers Megan Ryder and Josephine Eskildsen joined the team as interns from Hyundai’s Women in STEM initiative in 2021. BHA’s Taylor Hagler became the first woman ever to win an IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge title in 2021: Hyundai_TaylorHaglerWIMPiece_JS_V1.mp4 (dropbox.com)
It’s Your Turn: Now you can experience the thrills of racing the three-time championship winning Hyundai Veloster N TCR – virtually on iRacing. The worlds leading racing simulation platform just added the Veloster to its paddock of virtual racers, which includes the Elantra N TCR. BHA drivers Tyler Maxson and Mark Wilkins helped iRacing develop the Hyundai entries for the virtual platform.
Hyundai Drivers’ Camp: North America’s Hyundai racing drivers recently completed a four-day training camp in Indianapolis. Presented by BHA, the drivers completed four days of intense physical and cognitive training at Pit Fit, in addition to trainings focused on sports psychology and mental health, engineering and data acquisition.
Growth: Coming off of their third consecutive IMSA title, Bryan Herta Autosport has expanded from four cars to six Elantra N TCR entries in 2022. The team welcomes three new drivers, AJ Muss, Robert Wickens and Tyler Maxson. Hyundai driver Mason Filippi is back racing under the BHA banner for 2022 after a year away racing for Hyundai at Copeland Motorsports.

#1 Hyundai Elantra N TCR
2021 Drivers CHAMPIONS
2022: Best Start:11th Best Finish: 2nd Ranked:2nd
Taylor Hagler: “I’m hoping we can keep up our podium momentum from Daytona as we head to Sebring for the second round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. We had a two day test at Sebring and that was key for us to continue develop our new Elantra N for the 2022 season. I was really happy with our performance in the test and can’t wait to get back to Florida. We always have a great turnout of Nthusiasts at this event!”
Michael Lewis: “Sebring is a fun track. The layout has great flow; and it races well too. Being able to test before racing here is really beneficial, and it’s just another opportunity to become one with our Elantra N race car. The competition will be strong, but Bryan Herta Autosport is working hard to give us great race cars to compete at the front!”
#2 Elantra N TCR
2022: Best Start: 2nd Best Finish: 16th Ranked: 16th
Ryan Norman: “I can’t wait to get on track for the race weekend at Sebring! It is now my home track since im living in Fort Myers now so this race and mid ohio by where I grew up are the races I really look forward too. Out of all the tracks sebring is where I have the most laps around and was able to win the 2020 IMSA TCR championship here as well so looking forward to continuing that success as a team here. We had a rough start to the season with a mechanical DNF in Daytona and I really thought we had the pace to win so I want to continue that mindset into this race weekend and show what the #2 Hyundai Elantra N has.”
AJ Muss: “Sebring should be a great race for us, I think it’s one of the tracks that suits the Elantra really well. Daytona was a very strong qualifier for us it was great to have an all-Elantra front row lock-out for Hyundai, and for me personally to qualify on the front row in my first race with Bryan Herta Autosport, was very rewarding. We’re just coming off a great test in Sebring, really gives us the confidence that we are going to have a great set up and a strong car. Along with the test being a huge step in the development of the Elantra N TCR, the Elantra especially handles the bumps extremely well. Looking forward to a great race weekend especially turns 1 and 17 that are the high speed gut check corners, this is where I shine.”
#33 Elantra N TCR
2022: Best Start: 7th Best Finish: 3rd Ranked: 3rd
Mark Wilkins: “We had a really productive test and continue to move the needle forward on the setup of our Elantra N TCR. All six cars worked through a comprehensive test plan over two days and as a result, we are well prepared for the balance of the season. We have made great strides with this car since the start of last year and I feel great about our chances at victory next week! Sebring is a challenging, bumpy circuit that is incredibly fun and rewarding to drive, especially with a well- balanced car underneath you. Robert and I look forward to capitalizing on our strong start to the season at Daytona with a victory at Sebring!”
Robert Wickens: “Finishing on the podium in Daytona was such a perfect way to cap off an emotional weekend! Now that we have tasted sucess, I believe we are even more driven to continue that success. We left some room to improve, so I am looking forward to continuing our progress and getting more out of myself and the Hyundai Elantra N TCR car.”
#54 Universal Coating Elantra N TCR
2022: Best Start: 14th Best Finish: 6th Ranked: 6th
Michael Johnson: “I love racing at the iconic Sebring. This track is vastly different from anywhere else we race, but it produces a fantastic show. I have struggled here in the past, but I feel I have improved. I’m really looking forward to getting everything out of the Elantra N there and to race for the win.”
Stephen Simpson: “I have some unfinished business that has left me unsettled since Daytona, so I have been chomping at the bit to get to Sebring. Michael and I have the equipment and ability to win with the 54 Elantra N TCR team, it’s just a matter of time.”
#77 Elantra N TCR
2022: Best Start: 1st Best Finish: 9th Ranked: 9th
Mason Filippi: “Back to the bumps! I love racing the Elantra N and Sebring suits the car very well. Tyler put our #77 Elantra on pole at Daytona and we’ll look to back that up in Sebring and add a win!”
Tyler Maxson: “I am ready to get back going again after the good test we had at Sebring a few weeks ago. I think we showed great pace in Daytona but just had some bad luck. We learned a little bit more about our Hyundai Elantra in the most recent test which will make us stronger come race time. Sebring is obviously one of the bumpier, if not the bumpiest course we race at, so taking care of our equipment for the latter stages of the race will be key for success.”
#98 Elantra N TCR
2022: Best Start: 6th Best Finish: 12 Ranked:12th
Harry Gottsacker IV: “It’s been a while since Daytona and glad to get back at it and put an unsuccessful weekend behind us. Sebring is a place where I’ve been typically strong, and I’m focused on adding another pole position to my resume. Sebring is a unique place and knowing how to use the surface and the bumps to your advantage is key. We found last year that the Elantra has a great platform and a lot of stability and we will go for victory.”
Parker Chase: “Excited to get back in my Hyundai Elantra N TCR at Sebring this weekend. It’s been almost 2 months since our last outing at Daytona, but I have stayed busy! Sebring is always a good time. Track is great and I really enjoy the challenge of all the bumps. Not to mention the quality of fans that make it out every year! Hopefully, we can have a little bit better weekend than we had in Daytona and secure the first hardware of the year for Harry and myself.”
