Chaves Finishes 11th at Milwaukee Mile
Ultra Competitive Race Proves Tough to Pass
Milwaukee, WI –The condensed Sunday schedule for the ABC Supply 250 at the Milwaukee Mile was a race fans dream! Practice qualifying and the 250 mile race were all contested today under perfect weather.
Gabby Chaves and the BHA team were consistently between tenth and twelfth all day. After practicing in the top 10, an early draw in qualifying resulted in a twelfth place starting position as the track improved throughout the session.
At the start of the race, Chaves used his outside starting position to move up to sixth place on lap one. Passing was at a premium;
the equality between all cars was nearly perfect and it took a mistake or mis-timing on another drivers part to make a pass.
As the race progressed through two late caution periods, the BHA team appeared to be on a strategy for a top six finish. Chaves asked for no changes on the car as it was nearly perfect, a credit to the engineering staff.
However, the final caution allowed a number of cars who would have ran out of fuel to make it to the end of the race. In the end, Chaves and the BHA team had to settle for 11th place finish, a finish not reflective of the strength of the #98 car or young driver’s solid race.
Gabby Chaves on the ABC Supply Co. Inc. Wisconsin 250:
“Well another race, moving forward, everytime getting some points. I think we had a really strong car today, unfortunately just kinda got out of luck with that last caution. I think with the cars that weren’t going to make it on fuel that were ahead of us would have put us into the top seven. That’s that, but we did the best we could. We had a good enough car and we raced hard, so were happy with the job the crew did.”
